What if we could let go?
What if we could break free?
What if we could effortlessly float?
What if we could set sail to the sky?
What if gravity weren’t an obstacle?
What if we could cruise on an eagle?
What if we could take a ride on a cloud?
What if we could soar amongst the birds?
What if your imagination was reality, and had no limits?
What if you could close your eyes, and ears, and escape?
What if the connection between foot and ground… were to break loose?
What if a sudden force, or exertion, were to come upon you, and lift you?
What if, for a moment, the wings of your imagination appeared on your back?

What if you could fly?

POSTED BY MAYA ON BEHALF OF ILAN

I was told this post by telephone and typed it for him.

“So, I have spent four days in Guatemala, and, to my surprise, there is no Internet or Wi-Fi here. I will be able to post by myself in 3 days when I travel to Antigua. So, I have really bonded with my family over these past couple of days, and I have had a wonderful time teaching many of the kids how to skateboard and showing them the possibilities of my iPhone and I have intrigued them. For the past 4 days, my dad and I have given away several clothes to the needy + poor here, as well as giving gifts to our family. It is really fun to roam around the massive ground that our family owns here. Recently, my grandparents have moved into a new house and my dad told me that my grandmother will not be running the shop she used to in the old house. But to both of our surprises when we arrived, she had a new shop up and running in the new home. I have noticed that my grandpa Teodoro’s handwriting is the best I’ve ever seen in my life. I will post pictures of it as soon as I can. Over these days, I have roamed freely like never before. I play soccer, skateboard, and meet more and more cousins of mine I never knew I had :D All my family members are the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life.

When I return to the United States I will compile and create an art piece with all my images and I have also been recording a video on my video camera to show you all what it’s like here. I will continue this post on Saturday when I will be in Antigua and it will be titled Guatemala Part 2. This post may sound different then my other posts; I am simply telling it aloud to my sister, but I promise that you will have my typing on this blog shortly. It is pretty funny here because while I try to speak Spanish, the family tries to speak English to me. We all feel out of our comfort zone together; it’s pretty funny. Sometimes I will speak Spanish and they will give me a confused look and vise versa. I still feel lucky to have such an understanding family and father who translates every word for me, and I also want to thank my brilliant authors for posting for me, though I cannot see their posts, they are doing a fantastic job. Most of all, I want to thank my sister and my mother for their love and understanding, who gave up their opportunity to come here themselves, so me and my father could.

Thank you for continually coming to this blog in my absence; I really appreciate your support and I have tons of stuff to write about and I will once I am back in my own home.

Have you ever felt out of your comfort zone in any situation?”

When Hassle Becomes Instinct… June 28, 2009

While asleep last night, I was thinking about what to post in my next article. I closed my eyes, and dove deep into the depths of my mind, and came up with a simple, yet complex phrase.

“When hassle becomes instinct, progress is made.”

Yours truly

Now, let’s do a little bit of synonimation, the term I used in my “Possess over Want” post. Synonimation is the system I came up with that entails changing each word in a phrase to an equal word, to make an equal phrase that’s less complex. With this phrase, I’m not going to use equal words, but rather simple definitions of the words. Hassle means something that is considered bothersome, and unneeded. Instinct means something that comes naturally, and is done without thought.

“When something bothersome becomes something that comes naturally, progress is made.”

Still, the definition of this quote is misconstrued. I give an example, because examples provide us with familiar instances of unfamiliar theories. When you get into a car and sit down, what’s the first thing you do? Buckle-up. Now, some people thinks it’s a hassle to buckle-up or find it to be bothersome. When they have fastened their seat belt enough times such that the hassle of buckling up becomes instinct, something that comes naturally, they have made progress.

Has buckling up become an instinct for you?

I’ve been straying rather far from quotes lately, so I’d like to venture into that category once again.

Control thy passions, lest they take vengeance on thee.

Epictetus

I picked this quote by random while flipping through the pages of “Quotable Quotes“. I was thinking about this quote, and looked at the level of thought needed to completely process it. In this same train of thought, I cogitated a simple way of deciphering such quotes. This was by means of, what I call, synonymation. This is just taking each word in the quote, switching it with it’s synonym, and ending with a completely new quote, equal to the original. We are all well aware of the words control and passion, so we leave that be. Thy means your. Lest is a term from Middle English, and is not referred to much today. It means “or else”, and states the barrier between cause and effect. We can replace Vengeance with revenge, those two being synonyms. Thee means you.

Control your passions, or else they will take revenge on you.

Now we are well aware of each word in the quote, but still lost in the decipherment. “Or they will take revenge on you” can be switched with “Or they will negatively effect you some way in the future”, as they are equal in etymology. We finish with

Control your passions, or they will negatively effect you some way in the future.

Although I have simplified the quote, I still haven’t quite defined it. By control your passions, we’re referring to want, and greed. If you don’t control want and greed, and let them take over your life, you may enjoy the fruits of your passions for a while, but it will, in some way, effect you in the future. Lets say Jim really wants a certain car. This car is the only thing on his mind, the only thing he could ever want (as he sees it). He has a gerbil at home, that he loves very much, but his passion for this certain item is destroying his life. He’s trying to save enough money to buy this certain car, and every dollar he’s made has gone into this fund. One day, he sees that he has just enough to purchase this car. He’s ecstatic with happiness. He drives the car around town, showing it off to bystanders. He feels like he’s the king of the world, in his new auto. Jim drives home, after a long night on the town. As he is about to go to sleep, he sees his gerbil in it’s container, motionless. Jim had forgotten feed his gerbil, the only source of real happiness in his life,  all because of his greed. This leads me to another quote.

You don’t know what you have, until it’s gone.

Unknown

Have you ever felt the emphasis of the above quote?

The Last Day June 26, 2009

Today is the last day, before i take off to Guatemala. I depart at 11:45 tonight. I am super excited. So last night and today i am packing my suitcase and carry-on bag. It’s really ironic because right now in Cali, its around 72 degrees Fahrenheit and its bright and sunny. And in Guatemala its 79 degrees Fahrenheit but it is raining. That’s like my favorite weather because your not cooped up and frozen cold. It’s like the perfect weather for playing soccer because its warm enough that you won’t catch a cold, but you still can experience the fun of playing in the rain.

So, i have this huge extended family in Guatemala. So my dad, has 6 other brothers and sisters who each made at least 2 children. Now that makes these children my cousins. But my dad is the second youngest out of the 7 siblings so one of his older brother’s child is like 35 years old. So basically i have  cousins that are like 35, and technically i am uncles of their kids which are like 15. So i am uncles of kids that are even older then me! It’s really a funny concept and i always tell that story to let people know really, how big my family is.

So in all i have a grand total of 96 cousins! I think that is awesome. So my grandfather or as you say in Spanish, abuelo once bought a ton of land in Guatemala when it was cheap. So now the entire family lives on like acres of land. We have 5 large homes on the land, and room for around 3 more. That’s why i love going to Guatemala because i get so much freedom to roam around. And i just love spending time with my entire family.

So everyone is wondering when i will be flying exactly today to Guatemala. The time is on the first paragraph. And i will also be putting a large banner at the top of the sidebar saying:
“Ilan Is On Vacation In – Guatemala”

Have you ever gone on a big vacation and been super excited and why?

So yesterday i was browsing around the web and was trying to think of ways to improve my blog before i leave. So i was looking at The Panic Button and i stumbled upon his banners page. I noticed though that the page was not on WordPress but on some other social networking thing. As it turns out it was google sites. So for about 10 minutes one of my best friends on the Internet Sssaam was telling me on aim how to create one of those sites. And i did and i filled it with all new widgets for the new site.

So if you look to the special widgets on the sidebar, i have added a banners link that looks like this:

And if you click it it takes you to this:

App Review: Pocket God June 24, 2009

Pocket God is one of the best games on my iPod-touch. It is in the top 25 app list hovering around at about number five. Pocket God is also only 99 cents! But the best thing about Pocket God is they update almost every week, unless Apple takes too long to update the app into their store. In Pocket God you are the god of a tribe of Pygmies. You can either help the pygmies, or torture them. You can pick the pygmies up with the touch of a finger, and then simply let them drown. You can send a T-Rex out to kill them, but at the same time you can give a Pygmy a spear to kill it. Or if you prefer to be a pacafist god you can simply feed them coconuts, have them go fishing, and not kill them every thirty seconds. And with all the peacful things there is deadly things as well. Such as killer ants, a hungry shark, exploding volcanos, and vampire Pygmies. The game even has traveled into other apps. Such as doodle jump, the creeps, little big planet, and more. If you simply don’t have a good imagination to imagine what pocket god looks like Ilan provided a video of it below.

I made a poll and you the viewers voted. Ilan’s Redcowz Blog is no more. It is now “That Boy Who Blogs”. I am super excited and i feel the new name doesn’t constrict me to a certain color or logo. Believe me, my cow has a special place in my heart but i feel like this fits my blog better. My blog can still be accessed through redcowz.wordpress.com so no need to change links. I hope you enjoy the new site. I also made a new header for my blog. I hope everyone likes the new domain.

Still my authors will be posting while i am on vacation. But my site will be no different. It will include the same genre of posts. Just a new way to access the site. I hope you will continue to visit this blog.

Iran Election Terror June 22, 2009

Now i know some people may be oblivious to what is going on in Iran right now but this post is to inform you. So the iranian elections took place and for an unknown reason a dictator from Iran named Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won. Now the citizens of Iran wanted Hossein Mousavi to win because they believe he will bring change to Iran. So the iranian people were very frustrated and began to protest. The citizens believe the election was fraud or made so that the dictator would win. The protests got out of hand and several tweeters as well as bloggers and youtubers have published videos and articles explaining what is going on in Iran. The videos show citizens rioting and attacking the Iranian police. They are fighting in millions for their freedom. In another video it shows the Iranian police on motorcycles knocking people down with large batons. This is cruel injustice. The protests have gone on for almost a week now. Several citizens have died from shots to the body from the Iranian police. And one tweeter claims that the Iranian helicopters came down on the protesters and released skin burning gas. I think it is up to the web people all around the world to stop this injustice and to spread the word. Iran is trying to even shut off twitter and youtube to completely stop the flow of information from Iran to the rest of the world. I have sent in my thoughts on what’s going on to the Official CNN Twitter who is constantly updating the situation with tweeted thoughts. Iranians are even imprisoning journalists and bloggers from foreign countries in Iran to stop the flow of information. These journalists went to Iran and are risking their own lives to get us the information. So i am proud of these brave souls. I have faith that the citizens will win this civil war between government and people.

Here is a video made by Sam especially for this post in support:

We can help make a difference and show we care for the people in Iran. Change your twitter avatar to have green overlay (the official color for the movement). During the last 36 hours, over 90,000 people already joined! You can too at http://helpiranelection.com/
