My Meal In The Sky December 1, 2009

Well i wasn’t technically eating in midair but I was eating above ground in a restaurant that feels much like a U.F.O. The restaurant is called, The Encounter. Probably due to its futuristic look and atmosphere. The restaurant is located in an airport near me, but it is about 5 stories up and gives you a fantastic view of the planes taking off and the busy lives of frequent travelers. Here is the main sign and me standing at the front of the elevator that takes one up:

The elevator looks futuristic with buttons that you tap instead of pushing the button in much like a touch screen. Now normally I don’t like fancy restaurants but eating their was not just a dinner, it was an experience. As soon as you arrive and emerge from the elevator you notice where you are. You are five stories above ground with a fantastic view of the planes taking flight right before your eyes as you dine. The tables look futuristic with a hint of retro feel. I absolutely loved it and here are some pictures I took.

Pretty cool view of the air traffic control tower (pic #4)
What do you think of the place? What is your favorite food?
Turkey Day November 25, 2009
Posted by Ilan in My Day In 8th Grade.7 comments
As we all know today is Turkey Day better known as Thanksgiving Day. So today I will travel with my family only about 30 minutes to reach the rest of my family and sit down to the traditional meal. And of course I am excited to reconnect my relationships with my Family. I absolutely love Thanksgiving, the whole idea of people coming together regardless of where they stand in the world. Simply coming together, to give thanks, to create memories, to establish life-long bonds. It might be the most important holiday of all. What holiday is more important then the holiday that celebrates what we have. It doesn’t grant us what we didn’t have before, but it allows us to appreciate what we already have which is unlike all the other holidays. So tomorrow I will give thanks for what I have, what i have already, and what I appreciate most on this earth. And of course I will enjoy the traditional dinner, i so love.
What do you like about thanksgiving? What are you thankful for?
Control November 21, 2009

Lately, I have been struggling with an issue in my life. It’s about control, the things I have absolutely no control over. Lately several examples of this have come up. Recently I purchased an Xbox 360 and all these issues sprung up with wrong cables. Then once the Xbox started running I realized that I was not going to be able to go line with the standard ethernet cable. Which forces me to purchase a 70$ wireless receiver. These things have been happening a lot lately, and they frustrated me a lot. Yes, emphasis on “ed”. These things don’t frustrate me anymore, because I realized that if i don’t have control over something, then why fuss over it and become all worked up. So from now on I will see the things I do have control over and not dwell on the past.
“The Past Is History, The Future Mystery but Today is a Gift, that’s why they call it Present”
What do you not have control over? What do you have control over?
Optimism… November 21, 2009

Optimism: an inclination to put the most favorable construction upon actions and events or to anticipate the best possible outcome.

Optimism, in short, is the mental mind-set to think positively at all times, and to see the best parts of things. Ever since the beginning of this year, I’ve tried a new life style choice. I made my resolution to remain optimistic for the entire year. Now coming to the end of the year, my life has drastically improved. Now that I see that there is something good in everyone, and everything, I can maintain a happy stress-free lifestyle. Even if something bad happens, you shouldn’t let it affect you. Optimism is truly the simple effective way to live joyful and cheery.

Do you live optimistic?

I was in Language Arts flipping through a textbook when I found this poem and decided to make a video out of it. The words struck me with great familiarity. From the first sentence, I knew what the message was.
If looking good, and being popular, means being unable to express yourself freely, than I choose to be an ugly weed.
Let them be as flowers,
always watered, fed, guarded, admired,
but harnessed to a pot of dirt.
I’d rather be a tall, ugly weed,
clinging on cliffs, like an eagle
wind-wavering above high, jagged rocks.
To have broken through the surface of stone,
to live, to feel exposed to the madness
of the vast, eternal sky.
To be swayed by the breezes of an ancient sea,
carrying my soul, my seed,
beyond the mountains of time or into the abyss of the bizarre.
I’d rather be unseen, and if
then shunned by everyone,
than to be a pleasant-smelling flower,
growing in clusters in the fertile valley,
where they’re praised, handled, and plucked
by greedy, human hands.
I’d rather smell of musty, green stench
than of sweet, fragrant lilac.
If I could stand alone, strong and free,
I’d rather be a tall, ugly weed.
Would you rather be someone who is faddish yet unable to change, or someone who is detested yet able to be unique and free?

So much awesome, sad, crazy stuff has been going on in my life lately. It’s almost crazy to keep track of all this. Normally my life is a standard kind, but now its unorganized, therefor the posts are included. It’s really hard to juggle homework, friends, developing, blogging, myspacing, facebooking, twittering, aiming, and resting. Also I am soon going to a meeting about the trip to Japan next year. So i am taking a step forward and am thinking it would be fantastic to go. Sometimes I feel disappointed that I can’t do more because I am just a kid. I am trying to figure out how to do better, but I like to have fun too. Basically when I can finally rest I watch stuff on hulu and text friends. But that’s about it, and it is absolutely crazy to have to juggle all this stuff.
Have you ever felt really overwhelmed? In one word how would you describe it?
Projects October 28, 2009
Posted by Ilan in My Day In 8th Grade.8 comments
I have had to do these projects, 3 to be exact and they are all due during the same week. This week. It’s really frustrating because even if i am done with my homework when i get home i still gotta work on my projects. School is getting tougher and tougher. As you can probably tell by the frequency of posts I don’t have as much time to post here. Also stats aren’t down but I am really missing the interaction with my viewers. Comments don’t come anymore, so i may still be getting views but my blog runs on what people think of the posts.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed?
Life Lately… October 23, 2009

So a lot of stuff has been going on in my life lately. My mom has gone to a journaling meeting in Washington and she won’t be back until Sunday. And so this week I have been going to friends so my Dad won’t have to rush to pick us up from school. It’s slightly funny because I have 3 projects for school do next week and they all include artwork. So normally I have help but this weekend I will have to do three projects on my own. Which will be pretty hard. Also the iphone app we will be releasing is almost ready to submit.
I would like to talk about something serious though. It involves this quote below:
Your Mouth’s Spilling Words,
Armed For Slaughter
- Maya Angelou
What she means to say in this quote is that we as humans just speak without thought and our words are armed as though to kill. As i was reading this line I thought to myself, nothing explains the world better right now then this line. People not caring what they utter. People cursing, complaining, and making others feel unwelcome. Other people pushing there ruthless agendas on us, other people speaking out without restraint. I notice this wherever i go. We, as humans, don’t think about what we say we just say it. I am sure all of us have felt hurt by another because they didn’t think before they spoke. These words can leave a person damaged. I hope I never do this to a person in my life.
Have you ever been hurt my someone who didn’t think before they spoke?
One Billion… October 19, 2009
Posted by Sssaam in My Day In 8th Grade.7 comments
One billion.
About a billion minutes ago, the Roman Empire was in full swing.
About a billion hours ago, we were living in the Stone Age.
About a billion months ago, dinosaurs walked the earth.
A billion inches is 15,783 miles, more than halfway around the earth.
About a billion people are going hungry.
There are more hungry people in the world than ever before. More than one billion people, almost a sixth of humanity, are now undernourished, according to the latest estimates from the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization. Most people reading this could easily open their pantry and take out a bag of chips and be set for the night. But one in six people struggles to survive on a meal a day, sometimes less. What can you do to help?
Donate.

Click the picture to donate. Don’t have a credit card, or are too young to get one? It’s as easy as a click to donate the Hunger Site.
Here’s how the hunger site works. Every time you click the donate button, several advertisements appear. The Hunger Site is paid money for showing these advertisements, and they donate to money to the hungry. It’s so easy, and so effective. Just yesterday, 17,356 pounds of food were given to the hungry. Just last month, 612,388 pounds of food were donated. To date, The Hunger Site has donated 657 million cups of food. Do your part and click.
There’s also Free Rice.
Free Rice is another non-profit organization that has gives educational vocabulary game. Every time you get a word right, they donate 10 grains of rice. Here’s a commercial for FreeRice.com.
So please do your part and help the world out. Whether it be large scale, or small scale, we can make a difference.
